If you already have some kayaking experience and have run a few rivers – Darjeeling is the perfect destination to enhance your white water kayaking skills while exploring our fascinating country. Off Road Adventure Intermediate Kayaking instruction can be custom designed depending on your skills and interest. Our expert instructors can transform your current skills and help you become more confident rolling in white water, turning with precision, ferrying in quick currents, drawing strokes, bracing, surfing and improving paddling skills needed to start “play boating” and advanced “river running”. Choice of river, duration and focus are completely flexible and can be tailored to your needs.

Intermediate paddlers should consider the “Beginner  Kayaking Course” as a warm up for more experienced paddlers who may be out of practice and looking to brush up on some basic fundamental skills before challenging bigger Himalayan Rivers. We can tailor the instruction for you and focus on intermediate skills as we follow along the same route and have the support of the kayak clinic gear raft and camp logistics.


Day 01   : Introduction to the gear and the basic paddling strokes.

Day 02   : Learn ferry skills and assisted eskimo rescue.

Day 03    : River run to experience all the skills in easy whitewater section.

Day 04   : River run in class II kind of rapids.

Personal torch, quick drying clothes/swimming costumes for kayaking, waterproof floater kind of sandals with securable back strap, retainer cord for sun glasses/prescription glasses, cameras, sun protection/block cream, moisturizer, towel, toilet kit etc.

  • This is not a luxury trip; days would be tiring and intensive.

White Water Kayaking is considered an extreme sport and has potential risks. Participants to our kayaking trips are expected to understand the hazards and would be required to sign an undertaking/disclaimer prior to participating. 

Additional information

Day 1: Joining instruction and introduction with our instructors, Later A brief introduction to the kayaking equipment, before we hit the water. Our kayak session would start with basic paddling strokes, turning strokes to get the basic control and balance of the boat. Long boating session with working lunch. Towards the end of the river time we give the experience of wet exit, and Eskimo rescue to the participants.

Day 2: Today’s kayaking objective is to learn leaning techniques and ferry glides. Practice of eskimo rescue would also be high on the agenda. 

Day 3: Now is the time to put our basic skills to use, and we would a short river run. We would practice all the skills on the river along with the team of professional kayakers from Off Road Adventure.

Day 4: Today we do a river run of about class II+ kind of difficulty level. All the skills learnt would be practiced in gradually difficult waters. The river run would be about 10 kms long, and would encounter 3 rapids of class II+ kind of difficulty level. At the end of the river run we would have a short de-brief and we would introduce the participants to the road-map ahead, to continue their learning in future. Certificates Will be Provided with afternoon, Later Dispersal.
