Tour Details

Perhaps the easiest and most enjoyable trek around Lek is the Sham Valley one, which gives out the traditional aroma of the Ladakh village life from the villages you come across on the way. There is no way one could be left untouched by the dream land that was transformed thanks to the stream that is watering the lands and bringing prosperity and wild natural beauty.

The main Ladakhi monasteries are lying in the remains of the ancient Kingdom of Shan, while there are many astonishing sites around to visit, like alchi, Lamayuru, Phyang, Spituk, Hemis, Thikse and Shey, which are all reachable via the road. Finally, Likir, Ridzong and Temisgang follow you when trekking through the beautiful Ladakh trek route.

You won’t find any serious hardship while trekking through the paths and you won’t ascend more than 4,500. You will come across many villages and familiarize yourself with the locals who have kept their customs and ways untouched by time. You can stay at local houses that are appointed for village Home stay and a camera is a necessary addition to your backpack, since both views and people are a beautiful sight to capture.

Day 1New Delhi to Leh(3500m/11482ft)

After an early breakfast you are transferred to the domestic airport for your flight to Ladakh. This must be one of the most sensational flights in the world. On a clear day from one side of the aircraft can be seen in the distance the peaks of K2, Nanga Parbat, Gasherbrum and on the other side of the aircraft, so close that you feel you could reach out and touch it, is the Nun Kun massif. Upon arrival you will be received and transferred to to your Hotel. You would take a little time to settle in and acclimatize since you have gone from a relatively low elevation in New Delhi to over 11,000 feet! The rest of the day is at leisure for you to acclimatize.

Sightseeing in and around Leh. Visit the different monasteries around Leh and the interesting Leh Market in the evening.

Day 3Drive Leh to Likir and trek to Yangthang(3700m/12139ft) 6 - 7hrs

We will drive for 1.5 hrs to reach Likir, from where we will start the walk which goes parallel to a motorable road that ascends to Phobe La (3580m). From the pass, we leave the road to take a descending track leading to a gorge which finally takes us back on the road. At this point one can view Sumdo village with its few houses. We will leave the road again to climb up to Chagatse La (3630m) after crossing the stream on a wooden bridge. One starts seeing the Yangthang village where we camp for the night.

Day 4Trek Yangthang to Rizong Gompa and back to Yangthang(3700m/12139ft) 6-7 hrs

On this day, we will walk to Rizong monastery, which is not too tough but a bit tiring. It’s a walk through the village descending to the stream from where one enters a narrow gorge that leads to the monastery, known for its monastic discipline.

Day 5Trek Yangthang to Hemis shukpachan (3600m/11811ft) 2- 3 hrs

This day comes with a relatively short walk to Hemis Shukpachen village. We will cross Tsermangchan La (3720m) to get to the village, which has its own beauty with a rich cultural background, myths and mysteries. There is a bunch of juniper trees on one side, which is not disturbed by the villagers for a superstitious belief they attach with it. There are a couple of guest houses and homestays too in the village.

Day 06Trek Hemis shukpachan to Tingmoszang(3650m/11975ft) 4-5hrs

This trek involves crossing a pass called Meptak La (3980m) after which we reach the Ang village. A half an hour from this village gets us to Tingmoszang which is a relatively larger village.

Day 07Drive Tingmoszang to Leh (3 hrs). Visit Alchi Gompa enroute.

The trek continues towards Tia village in the west. An easy ascent towards south after crossing the bridge brings us to Bongbong La (3600m). Half an hour walk from here brings us to the road. We visit Alchi monastery on our way back to Leh.

Day 08Fly Leh - New Delhi

Early morning transfer to the air port, arrive in Delhi, visit old and new Delhi evening after the dinner transfer to international air port.
