Overview

Ghorepani Poonhill trek is tremendously famous and one of the most popular treks in the Himalayan region of Annapurna foothills. Because of its beautiful mountains, landscapes, diverse cultures, and the decent guest houses, the trek is number one choice for nature lovers and adventure trekkers. Ghorepani Poonhill trek is an altitude free and scenic journey that suites to anybody with a moderate level of fitness.  Children, above the 10 years will also enjoy the trek equally as their parents would do. Ghorepani Poonhill trek starts in the lake city of Pokhara after a scenic 200km drive or a 25 minute mountain flight from Kathmandu. Pokhara is a beautiful city with an amazing lake and caves, we can enjoy boating on the Phewa lake. This lake city is also the starting point for some of the most famous treks in Annapurna region.

Ghorepani Poonhill trek continues on a private coach to Nayapul from where the trek really begins. Crossing the suspension bridge over Modhi Khola River, we ascend through beautiful villages, terrace farming lands enjoying the views of fishtail towering above us. We continue our trail and walk mostly through lush, peace and quiet woods to Ghorepani at 2800m. Next day we make an early hike to Poonhill (3210m) to see the breathtaking views of mighty Annapurna ranges including Fishtail, Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Nilgiri and Dhaulagiri. Mount Annapurna I and Dhaulagiri are the over 8000 Meter Mountains in this region.  The grand sunrise view from Poon hill will be another marvelous moment in this hike. Ghorepani is a fascinating village with some decent teahouses and beautiful rhododendron forest. The village is also the gateway to Annapurna Himalayas. The trail leads to north from the village is a wonderful trek to Jomsom Muktinath and to the east is fascinating Annapurna base camp aka Annapurna sanctuary trek. We leave Ghorepani following the eastern trail to Tadapani and Ghandruk, both are fantastic villages for stunning views of the Annapurna South and Fistail. Ghandruk is one of the largest Gurung villages on the lap of the Annapurna with its traditional houses, rich culture and picturesque setting below fishtail mountain.  Walking down through the beautiful steps we make a loop at Birethanti and take a private coach drive from Nayapul to Pohkara.  Or we can extend our trek for two more days walking through Pothana village to Dhampus village and then to Dhampus Phedi from where we have half an hour drive to Pokhara. Ghorepani Poonhill trek can also combine with two nights three days wildlife safari in the tropical Chitwan National park.

Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival at Kathmandu airport (1350meters).

Upon your arrival at Kathmandu airport, you will meet one of our trek leaders who will be standing at in front of arrival terminal with the colorful garlands to welcome you. Transfer to hotel, rest of the day is free and relax. In the evening one of our team leaders will come to see you and take you for a welcome dinner at a typical Nepali Restaurant. Enjoy the local meal with the great conversation and short brief about Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek. Overnight at hotel.

Day 02: Drive or fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara (925m), Drive six hours or flight 25 minutes.

After an early breakfast, we depart for six hours drive to Pokhara (925m,), 200 kilometers west of Kathmandu. As we climb out of the Kathmandu valley, only to quickly descend again to the Trisuli River, we follow upstream to its junction with the Marshyangdi River. We follow the Marshyandi River gently up through heavily terraced fields and small hill towns to the Seti River that takes us directly into Pokhara. Having pleasant weather, Pokhara is tourist's paradise with full of natural as well as cultural heritage sites such as lakes, caves, temples of Buddhist and Hindus along with mountains. We can observe views to the north across the hills and Phewa Tal (lake) to the white peaks of the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna ranges. This drive will take most of the morning, leaving much of the afternoon to fall in love with its beauty. We can also fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara which takes about 25 minutes. Overnight at hotel in Pokhara.

Day 03: Drive to Nayapul (1050m) and trek to Ulleri (2100m), drive 2 hours, trek 6 hours.

After early breakfast at hotel in Pokhara, we take a 2 hour scenic drive to Nayapul from where our trek really begins. We walk via Birethanti (1065m) to Ulleri (2100m) which takes about six hours. The first part of our trek is easy passing through numerous small villages and settlements. Afterwards we ascend gently to the final destination of the day. The majority of people here are Gurung and Magar and their religion is Buddhist. They are engaged in agricultural activities, tourism business and some in Gorkha and Indian regiments. Overnight at guest house in Ulleri.

Day 04: Trek from Ulleri to Ghorepani (2800m), walking 6 hours.

After breakfast at guest house in Ulleri, we start our pleasant hike from Ulleri via Banthanti to Ghorepani village. On the way, we can see good view of Machhapuchhre (Fish Tail 6997m), Huinchuli (6441m), and Annapurna south (7219m). Now, our trail is quite easier passing through forest and descends gently up to the final camp. We can see some of the wildlife such as monkeys and various species of birds. Overnight at guest house in Ghorepani.

Day 05: Early hike to Poon Hill (3210m) and trek to Tadapani (2650m), walking 7 hours.

In the early morning hike one and half hour to Poon Hill (3210m) to enjoy the sunrise view over Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167m), Tukuche Peak (6920m), Nilgiri (6940m), Varaha Shikhar (7847m), Mt. Annapurna I (8091m), Annapurna South (7219m), Annapurna III (7855m), Machhapuchhre (6993m), Annapurna IV (7525m), Annapurna II (7937m), Lamjung Himal (6931m) and other numerous snowcapped mountain peaks. Hike back to Ghorepani, breakfast at guest house, we begin our trek from Ghorepani to Tadapani (2650m) through the deep forests of rhododendrons, bamboos and oaks. En- route, wefrequently see waterfalls, rocks, wild animals, local birds and green sceneries. Tadapani is a small village surrounded by beautiful forests which grants us a magnificent view of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Fishtail, and Annapurna II and so on. Overnight at guest house.

Day 06: Trek from Tadapani (2650m) to Ghandruk (2000m), walking 4 hours.

After breakfast, we start an easy day; today’s trek is easy trek by descending gently all the way through rhododendron, oak and other kinds of dense forests. We can hear different kinds of birds chirping on the way. This is one of the popular destinations for the birds' lovers. Ghandruk is a large Gurung village. There is a handicraft centre and Gurung museum. From this village we can see good views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Gangapurna (7455m), Annapurna III (7755m.) and Fishtail. Overnight at guest house.

Day 07: Trek from Ghandruk (2000m) to Pothana (1990m), walking 6 hours.

After breakfast, first part of our trek is steeply down following stone staircase to Kimbu (Bee hive). Kimbu or Bee hive is located at the elevation of 1200 meters on the bank of Modi Khola. Now, the trail steeply ascends following the stone staircase up to Landruk. The trail ascends gently for nearly two hours and again ascends steeply for an hour to Deurali (2150m) passing through Tolkha village (1850m). From this point we can see panoramic view of Dhaulagiri I (8167m), Annapurna South (7219m), Hiunchuli (6441m), Fishtail (6997m), Annapurna III (7755m), Annapurna IV (7525m), Annapurna II (7937m) and Lamjung Himal (6930m). Now, the rest of the trail descends gently down to Pothana village (1900m). Overnight at guest house.

Day 08: Trek from Pothana to Dhampus Phedi, drive to Pokhara, walking 4 hours, drive 3o minutes.

After breakfast, we leave Pothana on a pleasant trail to Dhampus Phedi, our trail descends gradually for down at least an hour and follows gravel road for two hours and then steeply descends to Phedi passing through Dhampus village, paddy fields and forest protected by local community. Upon our arrival at Dhampus Phedi, we take a private vehicle to reach Pokhara. Overnight at a comfortable hotel in Pokhara.

Day 09: Drive or fly from Pokhara to Kathmandu, drive 6 hours, flight 25 minutes, Or Juggle safari.

After breakfast, if you are interested in Jungle safari trip, 2 nights 3 days’ jungle activities, we will transfer you in to the tropical Chitwan National park. Or if you are coming to Kathmandu while driving from Pokhara to Kathmandu, we head up to Damauli,, Dumre, Muglin and Kurintar where Nepal's first Cable car is operated to reach to Manakamana Temple. En- route, we can enjoy the mountain views, green sceneries, rice terrace fields, vegetable fields and people being engaged in their daily life activities. From Naubishe we climb up to Thankot, the gateway to capital city. We can also fly from Pokhara to Kathmandu which takes about 25 minutes. In the evening, join the farewell dinner at a typical Nepali restaurant with live culture show. Overnight at hotel.

Day 10: Final Departure from international airport.

After breakfast, we will drop you at international airport for your flight back to home. Wish you have a safe and sound journey back home.
