Situated at an elevation of 16190 ft, expedition to the Green Lake is graded as tough to challenging. Being a demanding trek, trekkers need to take permission from the Home Ministry of Delhi for the expedition. However, this challenging excursion is all worthy for witnessing the picturesque beauty of the Green Lake. The Lake is completely surrounded by sky touching snow clad mountains. Best seasons for this 16 days expedition are mid April to mid May and mid October.

Day 01: Bagdogra - Gangtok (1650 mts/5413ft)122 kms / 3-4hrs

Arrival at Bagdogra airport. Drive to Gangtok along the river Teesta, through the Sikkim-Bengal border town of Rangpo. The drive takes about 4 hours. Transfer to hotel. Overnight at Gangtok.

Day 02: Rest Day at Gangtok(1650 mts / 5413ft)

After Breakfast tour of Gangtok which includes the famous Rumtek Monastery, Enchey Monastery, Institute of Tibet logy, Do shopping for your Personal Needs during trek and also time for acquiring the necessary trekking permits etc. Overnight at Gangtok.

Day 03: Gangtok–Lachen (2750 m/9022ft) 105 kms / 3-4hrs

The drive to Lachen from Gangtok is covered by jeep along the North Sikkim highway and takes about 6-7 hours. Over night at Lachen.

Day 04: Lachen to Talem (3468mts/11377ft) 13kms / 4-5 hrs

The jeep will ferry clients till Zemu bridge. After that the trek begins through lush green forest and reach Talem within 4-5 hrs nature walk. Overnight camping in Talem

Day 05:Talem to Jakthang (3176mts/10419ft) 05 kms/ 4-5hrs

The trek trails are usually water logged with Rhododendron forest and fallen trees trunks rotting in the morass. Before Jakthang the path crosses the Lhonak Valley Landslides. The bridge over there is bit adventurous for the clients. Jakthang is situated on a small shepherd huts and is great fun for camping.

Day 06: Jakthang(3176Mts) – Yabuk (3850 mts/12631ft)) 08 kms /4-5hrs

The trek to Yabuk climbs through the forest and after three hours of steady walking we reach the snout of the Zemu Glacier usually by lunch time. Overnight at camp for acclimatization.

Day 07: Yabuk(3850M)- Marco polo Rest Camp (4500m/14763ft) 5kms/ 4-5hrs

The trek now follows the Zemu glacier. The trail is mainly over boulders and in parts is indistinct. The Zemu Chu rushes through the glacier and as the valley opens up the great peaks come into view. The Rest Camp is situated right opposite Siniolchu and has a fabulous view of one of the most beautiful mountains in Sikkim. Blue sheep and the Bharal is often sighted on the hills opposite the Rest Camp. Walk slowly as the sir gets thinner and acclimatization becomes of essence.

Day 08: Rest Camp(4050M) - Green Lake (5050m/16568ft) 05kms / 3-4 hrs

The trek from Rest Camp climbs gently up the valley. The walk is usually slow because of the altitude. On a clear morning this is one of the finest treks in the Himalayas. Mount Siniolchu, Simvo, Twins and the Kanchenjunga are some of the giants that dominate the horizon. The camp is on a grassy flat known as the Green Lake Plain, the name derived from a small tarn at the eastern end where on a clear morning the reflection of the Mount Kanchenjunga is seen in the waters. Overnight at Camp.

Day 09: Rest day at the Green Lake(5050m/16568ft)

Spend the day lazing in the sunshine watching the peaks. The hill behind the camp which is an hour's walk is a perfect point to see the magnificent views of the Kanchenjunga and the valley below. Zemu gap that links the Zemu valley to the Talung valley is clearly seen from this height point. Overnight at camp.

Day 10: Green Lake(5050m) - Yabuk(3978m)(5-6hrs Trek)

Even though the area will attract you yet one has to leave early after breakfast - One has to make the trek from Green Lake to Yabuk in one day as the trail is mostly downhill. The road is nice and the trek easy - Refreshment and dinner - Retire - Overnight stay at Tent / Trekkers hut - Night halt at Yabuk.

Day 11 - Yabuk - (3978 m) - Talem - (3468 meters / 11, 378 feet) 5 - 6 hrs

A descent of nearly 800 meters. It is advisable to trek back towards Yabuk with moderate pace and enjoy the beauty of the trek - The view is nice and the atmosphere serene, you will enjoy the beauty around the place. Camping and snacks – dinner and retire in camp at Talem - Campfire can be arranged here but Lachen is preferable.

Day 12 - Talem - (3468 m) - Lachen (2750 m/9022ft) 4 - 5hrs

The route is invigorating and exhilarating. Words fail to explain the experience of being in this trek. One will come across the varied flora and fauna of the region - The trek passes through the dense coniferous forests of Kanchendzonga National Park – This return journey is nostalgic – Evening snacks and Dinner by early night – Retire – overnight in Hotel in Lachen.

Day 13 - Drive - Lachen to Gangtok

After breakfast leave for Gangtok, Visit Phodong Monastery if not visited earlier - The road from Lachung has rhododendron lined along the way makes a fantastic view - The best time to visit is in April & May, when the rhododendrons are in full bloom - It is considered one of the route of the state and has holy sites for both the Buddhists and the Hindus - Check in hotel at Gangtok – Refreshment and evening free – Stroll and visit the local shopping center in M. G. Marg – Dinner and overnight stay at hotel in Gangtok

Day 14 - Drive – Gangtok to Siliguri (100 Kilometers / 3-4 hours)

Early morning breakfast – Proceed to New Jalpaiguri Station Railway Station (NJP) / (IXB) Bagdogra Airport). Tour ends
